Accessible Vs. Aspirational: Bathroom Goals For The New Year

It’s the start of the New Year, and it’s a popular time to make plans and set goals for the year ahead. If you have some home improvement targets in mind, a great place to start is the bathroom. It’s a room that undergoes heavy usage, and can easily feel tired and worn. A well-designed bathroom can add value to your home and increase your pride in it.

Maybe you have a very dated decor scheme, or inefficient appliances that are nudging up your water and energy bills. A well-planned renovation project can solve these problems and make sure that your bathroom is a practical, efficient, and stylish place to be. Here are some 2025 bathroom trends and ideas that are a mix of accessible and aspirational.

Energy saving features

Fixtures and fittings that are designed to reduce water consumption and energy usage mean lower bills for you, and better news for the environment. For example, water saving showers use a low-flow showerhead to restrict the flow of water with no loss of pressure.

There are various different types available, but the product you use may depend on whether you have a low or high pressure water system installed. They are not only an eco-friendly choice, but are also energy saving because they consume less energy to heat the water.

Naturally, they also use less water, placing less demand on local resources and reducing your utility bills. A good low-flow showerhead should save around five to ten litres of water per minute, which adds up to a significant amount.

To make the most of your savings, check that there are no leaks in your bathroom plumbing, and set timers that turn off the water automatically after a fixed period of time, such as 15 minutes.

You could also explore water recycling showers, which work by collecting water in the drain, directing it through a sanitiser unit and recirculating it. If you want to use this type of shower, maximise its efficiency by installing a glass shower screen U channel to avoid leaks and splashes.

Smart lighting

If a full revamp of the bathroom is off the cards for time or financial reasons, consider upgrading the lighting system to transform the functionality and aesthetics of the room. Replace inefficient incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs, and integrate them with motion sensors so the lights automatically switch on and off when you enter and exit the bathroom.

Smart lighting controls can also give you access to features such as the direction, colour temperature and brightness of your lights. This enables you to adjust the lighting to suit the time of day, your mood, and your activity, such as having a long relaxing soak in the bath, or carrying out a task that requires full lighting such as shaving or applying makeup.

Earthy colours

The reign of grey and white bathrooms will finally be over in 2025, the style experts are predicting. Fashionable colours for the next year include warm earthy tones such as terracotta, brown, and even the return of 1970s favourite, avocado. If the thought of a whole room in these colours is too much, use them for accent features such as mats and towels.

Accessories or even fittings and fixtures in natural materials such as wood, ceramic and marble are also on trend and will complement earthy colours. Finish off the whole look with the addition of moisture tolerant houseplants in woven baskets or earthenware pots.

Spa bathrooms

Spa bathrooms have been fashionable for a few years, and the trend continues to grow. There’s no exact definition as to what constitutes a spa bathroom, but the aim is to create a harmonious sanctuary with luxury hotel-standard touches.

This could be as simple as fluffy Egyptian cotton towels and soft lighting, or high-end features such as saunas, plunge tubs, and steam showers. Add finishing touches such as aromatherapy candles and flowers or greenery.
