Door Handles That Will Add Elegance To Your Glass Fittings

When it comes to making home renovations, often it’s finishing touches that make the biggest difference. If you are installing custom glass features such as a display cabinet or a shower cubicle, then one detail that must not be overlooked is the door handles. Here is a look at some of the different handle styles that will complement your glass feature beautifully.

For shower doors

Handles are obviously a necessity for shower doors to allow the user to open and close the door, but they are a highly visible feature, and should therefore also enhance the overall design of the bathroom

The functionality of the handle should also be considered: will it be used by people with limited dexterity or strength in their hands, due to age or a degenerative condition? If so, look for ergonomically designed handles that are easy to grip even when wet for extra safety and usability. The handle could even be combined with other features such as a towel rail.

Back-to-Back shower door knobs

Back to back shower door knobs are a practical and elegant solution, as you can buy them as a matching two-piece set. The symmetry of the matching double handle is pleasing, creating a seamless and cohesive look, and obviously also conveniently allows you to open and close the shower door from both the outside and inside.

The material of the shower door knob is also important: it should be durable and water-resistant, and also complement the other materials, textures and colour schemes in your bathroom. For example, if you have a modern bathroom with chrome taps and towel rails, then this will be a natural choice for your shower door knobs.

Polished chrome shower door handles

Chrome is one of the most popular choices of materials for bathroom fittings, because it is resistant to rust and deterioration, and has an attractive shiny finish that reflects light and contributes to a more spacious and airy feel. It’s also easy to maintain and has a timeless quality, so it will never look old-fashioned and out of style.

Alternatives to chrome

For an elegant alternative to chrome, go for brushed nickel, which is equally durable and easy to keep clean as it doesn’t show fingerprints. If you have a vintage style bathroom, then brushed brass is an excellent choice of material. It was once regarded as old fashioned, but now the beauty and warmth of brass are being acknowledged by the design world.

Brass works exceptionally well with natural materials such as stone or marble, and also fits perfectly with vintage Victorian-style bathrooms. Pair it with matching brass shower hinges, towel rails or taps to draw the whole space together.

Matt black handles are another popular choice, particularly for contemporary bathrooms with a sleek minimalist aesthetic. They work really well with glass shower screens, providing an eye-catching contrast to the clear shiny surface of the glass. If you love monochrome colour schemes or industrial design, then a matt black finish could be the way to go.

For glass display cabinets and internal glass doors

Light bulb door knobs

If you have internal glass doors or glass-fronted furniture, then light bulb door knobs are a stylish and elegant choice. They are not actual light bulbs, but have a rounded ergonomic shape that resembles a small light bulb, and provide a natural fit in the hand.

Combine them with a material that enhances the colours and textures in the room, such as satin nickel or brushed brass or satin chrome.
