Serenity In The Bathroom: Our Top Tips
The wellness trend certainly shows no signs of stopping at the moment, no doubt driven by the pandemic and growing interest in practising self-care, in whatever form that takes person to person. For many, wellness and self-care means focusing on the mind, body and spirit… and one of the best ways to indulge all three is by heading to the spa for a peaceful retreat.
But, of course, it can be very tricky to do this on a regular basis, what with the pressures and responsibilities of everyday life getting in the way, as they are wont to do. There is an answer to your woes, however - and that’s to consider turning your bathroom into a serene at-home spa… something that’s actually surprisingly easy to achieve.
First of all, your colour palette is absolutely key. The idea is to create a really calming and peaceful environment, so neutrals are a great way to go. However, don’t forget that going all-white can make the space feel rather clinical, so try to bring in a mix of tones and shades if you can.
You can also use colourful artwork to bring monochrome palettes to life, while gold fixtures and fittings will add a touch of luxury and create more interest in the room.
Material choice is also of great importance when planning a serene spa bathroom at home. Wood features very heavily in luxury spas the world over so bringing it into your space can quickly transform the look and feel of the room. You can even find wood-effect tiles if you’re worried about how practical this material is in this part of the house.
Other potential options include stone, marble and travertine, as well as clay and terracotta… so it’s simply a matter of doing some research and finding out which of them appeals to your sensibilities the most. A textured stone wall, for example, could look stunning and bring something unique to the bathroom.
And, of course, you’ve got to devote some time to planning out your lighting system to perfection. The success of your spa will depend on how you light the space, since anything harsh and glaring will ruin the ambience you’re trying to create.
You also don’t want to have too many light fittings, as you’ll find you have too much light to play with. Don’t forget that you’re also likely to have candles as a light source, so this should be included in your planning, as well.
For the best results, LED technology can help you achieve the desired look and feel, as you’re able to control light quantity, warmth and colour easily.
You will need to make sure you have appropriate task lighting in place, as bathrooms should remain functional no matter how they’re designed… so make sure the sink areas and the shower and bath areas are properly illuminated. You can still do this softly and create that serene feel you’re after, as long as you can still see what you’re doing!
