Which Bathroom Trends Could Be On Their Way Out For 2023?

It’s the start of a new year, and we can look forward to some exciting new bathroom trends to emerge. Redesigning your bathroom can help to make your home a pleasure to live in, as well as adding to the resale value of your property. However, to get the most value from your investment, it’s important to choose the right design.

If you are keen to avoid a style that will look dated in a few year’s time, here are some trends that are set to fall out of favour this year.

Dated trend: the all white bathroom?

Like all white kitchens, the pristine white bathroom has been the go-to style for several years now. Fans argue that it feels clean and spacious, and can help a small bathroom to feel bigger. It has also been seen as a safe option for those who want to sell their homes, as it is neutral.

However, the ubiquity of the all white bathroom has now meant that its popularity is on the wane. It’s all too common a sight, and consumers are on the lookout for something new in 2023, when we are hopefully less hampered by the post-pandemic supply chain problems that have put many renovation projects on hold for the last few years.

Forbes magazine predicts that instead, warmer tones with natural grains and textures will take over from the clinical all-white look. This will not always mean darker tones, but added touches here and there to bring some depth and personality to the bathroom.

Dated trend: Subway tiles?

The subway or underground tube station tile, in a brickwork or chevron pattern, is set to fade from popularity this year according to the latest trendsetters. Again, it’s another ubiquitous trend that is starting to look a little dated and passe. For those who really still like this trend, it’s possible to put a fresh spin on it with marble or natural stone versions.

Dated trend: Busy mosaic patterns

The OOT mosaic tile trend may have been niche, favouring high end glam bathrooms. However, it has apparently had its day, with more calming sanctuary spa style bathrooms taking precedence over high fashion glam.

Dated trend: Minimalist style bathrooms

Minimalism has been a huge trend for several years now for all aspects of home decor, but 2023 could finally be the year that the tide is turning! It seems that at last, people are craving more variety and interest in all areas of the home, including the bathroom.

Trends that are expected to break away from the safe straightjacket of neutrals and whites include more use of black marble, and even patterned wallpapers. Bolder colour schemes, such as greens, dusky pinks, and dark blues are also set to be more popular this year.

So what will be popular for bathrooms?

A big trend for this year is the so-called ‘hipstoric’ trend, which is the blending of the styles of traditional eras and modern styles. It can take a little effort to put together, but it certainly results in a more personal and unique look.
